Senior Capstone

One of the final steps before graduating at Marshall University is creating, installing, and presenting work in an open exhibition to the public and faculty. I chose motion graphics as the solution to this final creative challenge.

Individual animations

I have spent a lot of time studying and practicing graphic design at Marshall University, a large portion of that was on traditional print design and I have learned an incredible amount in doing so. However, there is so much more to the field that I still don’t know which limits me creatively and competitively so I took this capstone as an opportunity to learn something brand new, motion graphic animation. Motion graphics is a powerful branch of graphic design with the same objective of communicating ideas visually, but can be far more engaging to the viewer with the addition of movement and sound. I was heavily influenced by popular YouTube channels whose contents is centered around 2D flat-style animation such as Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell and The Infographics Show. This collection of six animations is an experiment into uncharted territory and it was a great challenge to create. If I were to pull any meaning from them, it would be that this experience represents the type of designer I want to be.  I want to dive into new media and challenges head first, to learn all I can from this project and move onto the next one.
